Exercise

Lack of exercise and, surprisingly, over-exercising can result in decreased levels of testosterone.  Exercise stimulates the pituitary gland to stimulate the testes to produce testosterone.  Paradoxically, high endurance training, such as running for over 60 minutes, can lead to lower testosterone.  Therefore, moderate aerobic exercise combined with weight training for 20-30 minutes several times a week maximises the production of testosterone for the average male.  Research has shown that short bursts of intense exercise are more effective than continuous lower intensity exercise.  Some men, however, may have heart problems when they enter andropause, so it is always advisable to consult with your doctor before embarking on an exercise program.
